Inspired by the fourth grade study of humans and animals, this collaborative felted artwork features Swallowtail’s beloved goats gathered atop their “stump mountain” against a vivid mountain landscape of blues and greens.
Created using both wet felting and needle felting techniques, the piece connects directly to the students’ animal reports and their exploration of the relationship between humans, animals, and the natural world. In Waldorf education, the fourth grade human and animal block invites students to observe animals closely while also beginning to better understand themselves and their place in the world.
The richly textured background has already been lovingly crafted by the students, with the goats soon to emerge as the central focus of the scene. Inspired by the beautiful felted works hanging throughout the school halls, this piece reflects creativity, craftsmanship, teamwork, and the unique spirit of the fourth grade class.
