This layered watercolor collage was created from the children’s own paintings and mounted on a wood panel to form a vibrant mountain landscape filled with green hills, blue sky, and a bright yellow sun.

In first grade, Waldorf students begin watercolor painting, exploring the experience of color and how colors interact to create mood, feeling, and imagery. This piece was inspired by the class story and song from the sunflower ceremony at the beginning of the school year:

“We are going on a journey,
 to a place we do not know.
 On that journey we are learning,
 on that journey we will grow.”

The artwork beautifully reflects the spirit of beginning first grade together - stepping into learning, growth, and discovery with imagination and wonder.
